tomerHi all, first post as an OWNER of an 02 Kandi!!! I can't believe how cool this car looks (sold my Viper to get the Prowler)...

I have 2 questions, and I did some searching, so hoping I did not miss something obvious;

-Kid car seats, is there a specific model for the Prowler (unlikely) or anyone know a model which fits well? My concern is the seat bottom is quite arched, which won't lend itself well to securing the car seat firmly...

Second, I saw several posts about roll over safety, are the seat back hoops really structural, and are there any aftermarket roll bars available?

regards
Tomer

tangled up in BLUEkid seats....I use the ones WMart sells.....seems like the first ones were Costco brand....not sure what the current one is, it is the type that just has a bottom and allows the child to use the seat belts.....

the hoops are for looks only, no protection....

no aftermarket roll bars that I am aware of....one POA member had one installed, but it required the ragtop to be reshaped too for clearance....

GRROWLAre you aware of the recall? It was only to install a sticker, but it pointed out that you needed to turn off the passenger airbag.

Just thought I'd mention it in case you hadn't seen it.

-GRROWL

2000CatI was going to mention, on the right end of the dash is a switch or a lever to switch of the passenger side are bag.
I believe you have to open the passengers door to see the switch on the end of the dash
xpguyDefinitely turn off the air bag. We use a nice racing style booster seat for our 2 year old. Holds the shoulder harness nicely.

WELCOME!!!

BeWareCongrats on the new Prowler
CJTomer.........hope you resolved the issues with the cat!

Guy........great pic!!

whealyCongradulations on the net cat.

I found that child seats with smaller bases fit better between the raised portions of the seat.

As for the rollbar, I believe I'm the one that TUIB mentioned above. Of course he helped out letting me check out hard tops while I was in the process of finding a solution. Not for the faint of heart, but I'll include some posts with my findings. Hope it helps.

Mrs Cnote6We put Drew in it the last week or so with the car seat. Of course we turned off the airbag. Worked out great, ours is the Graco brand. Here are a few pics...

1buddycYou could at least get him a Purple Binky...(LOL)
Randy CobbMy youngest is now out of the car/booster seat age and size, but I felt she was very secure and safe in the Prowler.

Good point by all above in turning off the passenger side airbag. I turned my airbag off the first day I got it and only on rare occassions has it been back on.

Sitting low with the doors and area behind the seat higher than normal almost has a child encapsuled in my opinion.

The biggest problem I have now is since the seats are so low my youngest wants to get on her knees to see out.

I wish the 97's had the air bag cutoff switch. I have to open the fuse compartment located on the drivers side end portion of the dashboard and pull the fuse which controls the airbags. I NEVER take it out while the cat is running...just in case. Just the opposite...I make sure it's off before reinstalling.

KLKschwarzThis thread might help too. I took a inexpensive Graco seat and had it redone. The curve in the seat does not seem to be a problem. My daughter can see over the door, but she does not sit too high to be concerned in a rollover.

P.S. The seat is the same one XPGuy is using.

DublinOHI use a Britax Wizard for Amanda. The mechanism underneath boosts the seat high enough so that she can actually see something - which is the main problem with most seats. It must be comfortable too, as she sleeps a lot on longer road trips - if you have young kids, this is important. Are we there yet? I've been told that Amanda has a better vantage point than some adults (Annie are you listening)!

Hopes this helps. Next time I have the seat in I'll take a picture and post it here.

Regards,

Steve

tomerThanks all for the good info on car seats!!!!

Does anyone know if the 2002 seat bottom is arched more than some earlier years?? I need to figure out how to post pics, but the seat bottom has a huge arch to it, which does support the legs just behind the knees, but I am concerned that most car seats are designed to sit on a rather flat seat surface, and by jamming the seat in there and securing it properly, even with a seat protector, I am afraid it will take a toll on the beautiful seats in my ultra low mile 02 Kandi!!!! I have only had her for a week now, so needless to say am still babying the car.....

Of course, I won't compromise safety with my kids, just wonder if I am making a perverbial mountain out of a mole hill...

Happy Memorial Day to all!!!
Tomer

KLKschwarzI have had the Greco seat in and out a number of times over the past 1 1/2 years with no real issue. I can't say I use it a lot, but fairly regularly.
Randy Cobbtomer:

As protection for the Prowler seat, I lay a gray towel (matches interior)in the Prowler seat before I put the child's seat in.
